  About OggConvert
OggConvert is a small Gnome utility which uses GStreamer to convert media files to Ogg Vorbis, Theora and Dirac.

The main selling points are:

* It's painfully easy to use: drag a file onto the source bar (or use the file chooser) and hit convert. Of course, you can also change the quality settings and the output filename if you like.

* It uses GStreamer, so it can convert (almost) any file which Totem can play

* It can deal with audio-only files, video-only files, and files with many audio tracks (such as DVD rips with a commentary track).

* Thanks to the magic of GStreamer, metadata (for example, title and artist info on an MP3) is preserved

* Adheres to the Gnome HIG as much as possible

* Supports the Schroedinger encoder for encoding to the Dirac video format (note that this encoder is currently experimental and not suitable for archiving).

Requirements
This application requires GTK+ version 2.6.x. Other dependencies include:
Python, PyGTK, GStreamer (0.10.11 recommended), PyGst, along with the appropriate GStreamer plugins to handle the media files you want to convert.
Dirac encoding requires GStreamer 0.10.11 and the Schroedinger encoder (http://schroedinger.sourceforge.net)

  Latest Version: 0.3.0
What's new in this version:

* Support for encoding to the Matroska container format. Thanks to Carlos Perelló Marín for this.

* Internationalisation support, thanks to the work of Alex Kabakov.

* A lovely icon from A. Bram Neijt.

* Support for Gnome-VFS, allowing the transcoding of remote files over (for example) SSH or HTTP connections.

* A completely rewritten (and much faster) media checking routine.

* Ogg videos are now given the extension ".ogv", in line with the latest Xiph.org guidelines.

* Various internal changes, hopefully for the better.

* New translations: Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Swedish. Many thanks to all the translators. To add your language, please go to http://translations.launchpad.net/oggconvert.

* Other miscellaneous bug fixes.

Known issues with this release:

* The video quality setting doesn't do anything for Dirac encoding, due to the encoder not (yet) having this option available.

* Gnome-VFS support hasn't been thoroughly tested yet. There may be bugs here and there.

* Transcoding from FLV (Flash video) is known to be problematic due to issues with the GStreamer FFMpeg plugins. This is likely to be solved in the next release of the GStreamer "bad" plugins. See OggConvert bug #155023 for details.
