Congratulations, but your facts are outdated. The aMule team finally figured out that branches are a good thing.

aMule now has branches, too: A stable one (where 2.1.0 came from and where 2.1.1 will come from) and a bleeding-edge one (where "future versions" will come from).

"Future versions" means: versions with support for files > 4 GB (xMule doesn't support them on *any* branch), better core/GUI separation, better Mac and Windows support etc.

And "2.1.0/2.1.1" means: versions with Kademlia support (xMule doesn't support Kademlia on *any* branch).

As much as all these personal fights between aMule and xMule developers hurt: I'm really tired of reading things like "xMule rocks because it has branches".

Maybe the fact that it had branches before aMule "rocks", but the fact that it doesn't support Kademlia (a several years old technology!) doesn't "rock", the fact that the implementation of files > 4 GB is not even started (it's finished in eMule!) doesn't "rock", the fact that it doesn't work or even compile with unicode-enabled wxWidgets doesn't "rock" and the fact that it will probably never have a core/GUI separation doesn't "rock" either.

By the way, you are wrong here if you just want to tell us that xMule is a wunderful software. This is about aMule. Comments on xMule being a wonderful software belong into xMule's comment section. And even if your single "comment" on aMule (i.e. that it is "unusable" because it's "unstable") were right, it doesn't make any other ED2K client with missing features more usable.

amule is just an unstable unusable thing

xmule thought has 2 branches :
- a stable branch that rocks !!!
- an unstable branch that has a lot of new feature ... but that is still unusable for a 24H/24H download

xMule power !

This new release supports the Kademlia network, and is a stable as the previous 2.0.3, judging from the CVS snapshots I've been using since November!
Good work, aMule developers, and thank you!

Get precompiled packages from a repository. If you don't know such, post you distro and I will try to help. The packages from amule.org are of "medium" (read: poor) quality (e.g. built with "checkinstall" which is absolutely unacceptable, breaking SuSE's wxWidgets, compiled with obsolete libraries etc.).

aMule is a great piece of free software. It's full featured, simple as robust!
About the instalibility... I only shutdown amule when I need to update my kernel o xorg...

For those who think that amule isn't good enough:
Join the dev's team and starting improving it, I'm 100% sure that you will be welcome....

To all aMule dev's and users: thanks and keep developing and sharing...

It just rocks! I had it up and running (or shuld I say, downloading) for about 30 days (one month!) without crashing and had to stop it to upgrade to next version :-)
Best ed2k client around for Linux, and it's multi-platform!
Suports SUI, ICH, AICH, EC, IPFilters, has GUI/core splitted and is to support soon Kademlia and Proxy!
Outstading ed2k client. It has a 10 vote from me.
Great job those who are working on it! :)

I have to agree with the original poster. I really wanted to try the program, but everything I tried, I have not been able to get it up and running...

I couldn't agree less with you.

aMule runs great on my system (Gentoo on a 1.2Ghz AMD). It used to be unstable, but ever since rc2 I haven't seen no crash, and I'm keeping my aMule running pretty much all the time.

The download speeds were greatly improved, and the aMule stays responsive even after quite a long time of running.

I've tried using aMule several times over the past 2 years using different Linux distros, desktop environments, and kernels, and the aMule developers still haven't managed to rid it of the kind of bugs which make it unusable for me.

It's one of the few Linux apps I've used that actually crashes completely and utterly, and over the silliest things like normal widget manipulation. They've certainly managed to make the interface look nice, but it's all for nothing if the application doesn't work.

The only thing going for it is that xMule is even worse. My advice to Linux users: Stay away from these buggy eMule wannabes and go with MLdonkey. Besides, if the developers can't manage to get the ED2K part of aMule working, I have little faith they'll ever get Kademlia working, and Kademlia is the future of the Muleverse.
